Robbins Richardson, pastel artist, volunteer artist.

"My QuickDraw preparation involves an intense dry run. I set up my studio space to literally replicate conditions of the QuickDraw moment: the easel on a table, my pastels, my coffee, even my kitchen timer. I chant 'on your mark, get set, go!' and I see what happens."

Second graders learn printmaking.

"The QuickDraw grant has enabled me to provide printmaking materials/projects suitable for every grade level, K-5. The majority of these materials will be serviceable for many years to come -- possibilities are tremendous. Thank you!"

Teacher uses projector purchased with the help of QuickDraw and PTO funds.

QuickDraw funds were matched by the Parent-Teacher Organization so that this elementary teacher could purchase a LCD projector/document camera to use at every grade level.

Sarah Sneeden, oil painter, volunteer artist.

Sneeden doesn't mind the distractions of a watching crowd. "I have painted in some of the worst places in the worst times," she laughed, "one hundred degrees, when they're tarring roads. I've learned to roll past things. [...] an absolutely gorgeous location, just exquisite."

Testimonials

Dane and MaryEtta Burr, clay, volunteer artists.

"We have never known an art teacher who didn't pile a lot of their own money to buy art supplies. They go beyond the call of duty. This event is fun, educational, and on top of that, you've got a residual effect."

Burr quote

"The QuickDraw monies from the QuickDraw committee allowed my middle school students to experience clay projects. We purchased clay and a potter's wheel that the students have enjoyed using. Without the money, this would not have been possible."

Joyce Schlapkohl, oil painter, volunteer artist.

"QuickDraw is a unique opportunity to help our community," says Joyce, "there's an excitement and energy about the evening that I enjoy. The challenge lies in getting done in an hour, on a painting that would by rights take me hours to do."

Jennifer Riddle, mixed media, volunteer artist.

What would you tell the crowd watching over your shoulder?
"Thanks for supporting all the art community and we can hear while we paint believe it or not."

Riddle quote

Jessica Wilkerson, QuickDraw scholar (she earned a BFA in Graphic Design).

". . . my parents were nervous about my decision to study art, and QuickDraw provided validation: it said I made a good choice."
